Tunable white lighting to benefit learning

Prästängsskolan is a high school in Eksjö, Småland, in the southern part of Sweden. The school has completely newly renovated premises with lighting solutions from Aura Light. The renovation and extension started in 2017 and was completed in the fall 2019. The school has about 500 students. The new lighting has created good learning conditions for the students and in the ceiling of the auditorium, the luminaire Grace Line gives a pleasant light.

The auditorium – a place for fellowship

Directly when you enter the school you end up at what is the school’s centerpiece, the large open space called the Auditorium. Here students and staff gather when they have no lesson, and at larger joint events. In the room is a large staircase and the popular cafeteria. The auditorium has fine natural light coming in through the large windows and the discreet luminaire Grace Line has been installed in the ceiling to complement the lighting during the dark part of the year. Joakim Lund, who is a lighting designer at Aura Light, had a close collaboration with the customer where together they came up with the good lighting solution.

The classrooms have been given LED panels with variable color temperature and new board lighting. Being able to adjust the light according to different needs was one of the requirements the school had:
”Tunable White gives us the opportunity to change the temperature of the light based on tasks. It benefits learning and we get a pleasant light”, says Stellan Johnsson, who is the principal at Prästängsskolan.
”The students are also very satisfied. Most notably in the beginning, when the contrasts with previous conditions were most evident. Now they have become accustomed to good light”, says Stellan.
Other premises such as corridors and student locker rooms have been equipped with the Lanternin LED-panel and Salix, a downlight perfect for public spaces. In the stairwell hangs wall-mounted Opuz.
All lighting also has control via sensors. This means a very large energy saving as it never lights unnecessarily.
”Installation has been done by the installation firm Elajo.
We have been very satisfied throughout the project”, Stellan concludes.
