Better and smoother light in the gymnastic halls

During the autumn of 2019, the municipality of Varberg made a procurement of new lighting for two of the municipality's sport halls, Ankarhallen in Träslövsläge and Bosgårdshallen in Tvååker. Both halls were built in the late 1970s with dark wooden interior walls that steal a lot of light. Therefore, a luminaire with a really good luminous flux was required. The choice fell on Aura Light's industrial luminaire Sarek, which has a lumen output of 16,900 lm.
 

Reduced energy consumption thanks to lighting control

Reine Magnusson works as operations engineer for the municipality and aims to equip the municipality's properties with energy-efficient and innovative lighting solutions.

    - I have worked with Aura Light for many years and it has always worked well. When Sarek was presented, we quickly realized that it fit well with our requirements for powerful lighting. The old luminaires had 3x58W fluorescent lamps and 12W drivers, in other words, a consumption of 210W per luminaire. With the new Sarek luminaires, we got a 109W built-in LED light source and were able to reduce energy consumption by 50 percent thanks to lighting control.

    - We chose a simple DALI solution and presence detection. The light is turned off automatically when no one is in the halls. Via a push button on the wall, the lighting can be set to 30, 50 or 100 percent power, and the light is always switched on with the same power as when it was turned off. In total in the two halls, we have installed 84 Sarek, equipped with protective grids as extra accessories. In both halls there is a curtain wall that divides the surface in the middle. Here we have the opportunity to control each half separately when only one part is used. Previously, the light was also on in the part that was not used. This has also contributed to a reduction in consumption, says Reine.

Double as good light with new luminaires

The installations were made during the summer of 2020 by Bravida Varberg. Both the schools and unions that rent the premises think that the lighting has become much better and smoother, and for the installers, Sarek was easy to work with.

    - Previously, we had 200 lux in the premises, but after we installed the new luminaires, we have managed to achieve 400 lux, despite the dark wooden walls. You could say that we got twice as good light.

In Bosgårdshallen, we have also installed a number of Z44 over the grandstand part on one side of the hall where good general lighting was needed, Reine concludes.
