Refis High School

Eye-catching lighting for future electricians

Refis is a trade school that trains future electricians and plumbers. Refis is owned by Installatörsföretaget IN (Swedish Confederation of Trade Unions), which started the electrician line in 2021 as a result of the prevailing shortage of trained electricians. The school is housed in Campus Liljeholmen in Stockholm, where students are offered both theoretical and practical teaching in their own classrooms and large workshops. In 2021, the workshop got a real facelift with new lighting.

The workshop, which is housed in the large high school building, each houses a department for the future electricians and plumbing fitters. The room previously had a relatively outdated lighting solution with fluorescent luminaires, but to match the school's vision of first-class education, the school environment would also be upgraded with, among other things, a completely new set of luminaires.

-    The previous lighting we had simply looked deplorable, says Pernilla Bäckius, Deputy Principal and Program Manager for the Electricity and Energy program. These were old fluorescent luminaires with varying appearance and installation. Some luminaires even lacked their diffusors.

All old luminaires had to go out to instead make room for modern, high-quality lighting that would both raise the quality of the work environment, but also be “gorgeous and eye-catching”. After several suggestions and alternatives, the architect, electrical consultant and chairman of the board of Refis found a common favorite - Aura Lights round luminaire Kvill. Mounted on a rail and in some cases suspended, the workshop has now been given a completely new light and appearance.

-    The students became completely lyrical about the new lighting. Once there was even one who during a tour was completely captivated by the lighting when we stepped into the workshop, laughs Pernilla.

Kvill, which is equipped with microprismatic opal, creates an even and glare-free light in the workshop. With the symmetrical placement in the workshop, adequate light is ensured throughout the room and the study environment has been significantly improved. With DALI, the light can be adapted as needed, as well as more efficient energy consumption can be achieved. With the choice of a round luminaire for a workshop, Kvill stands out and really creates something out of the ordinary.

-    I really like it, it turned out nice! a student comments while passing by and gives the thumbs up.
