Aura Light joins Science Based Targets initiative

2023 10 11

In today's world, where environmental challenges are on the rise, companies should take accountability and play their part in sustainable development. That's why we've taken the next big step in our sustainability work and joined the Science-Based Targets initiative to set clear targets to reduce our operations' direct emissions by 2030. We are also actively working towards three of the UN's global sustainable development goals to promote a sustainable environment throughout our value chain. By incorporating innovation and knowledge, we can offer sustainable lighting solutions that significantly contribute to good health and well-being. We understand that energy conservation helps reduce our carbon footprint, and that's why we promote low energy consumption.

Science Based Targets (SBTi) is a partnership between the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF). The aim of SBTi is to get private companies to systematically reduce their greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Paris Agreement and the 1.5-degree target.
“We have set clear targets in Scope 1 and 2 to reduce our direct emissions with 50% in our operations by 2030. In addition to joining SBTi, we work actively with sustainability issues that affect the entire value chain. We have the greatest opportunity to make an impact by ensuring that the most energy-efficient and smart lighting solutions possible are installed on the market. 90% of our climate impact occurs during the products use phase”, explains Henrik Håkansson, CEO of Aura Light.
In addition to the SBTi goals, Aura Light has implemented sustainability goals linked to Agenda 2030 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Goals 7, 9 and 12 are about contributing to green energy, innovation and sustainable consumption and production. Aura Light can contribute in these areas.
“For example, we have a goal to increase the energy efficiency of our products from an average of 120 lumen per watt to 140 until 2030 and to increase the products with smart lighting control to ensure that they do not shine unnecessarily”, says Henrik.
With our own production unit in Vimmerby, Sweden, and with a close relationship with our customers, we can also offer  support for renovation projects, where customers wish to retain some components of their existing lighting solutions while upgrading them to the latest technology.  In this way, what can be recycled is reused while the lighting is made more energy efficient.

“Our most important task is to support and guide our customers towards sustainable choices in lighting. This means both economically profitable choices with low energy consumption, and creating good light for well-being and health”, concludes Henrik.
