Aura Light launches energy-saving solution to replace mercury lamps in street lighting

The lighting company Aura Light introduces a lighting solution enabling municipalities to replace old mercury lamps with energy-saving lamps in existing equipment. In this way they can reduce the energy consumption by 50% and the amount of mercury by more than 90%, saving money as well as the environment.

By combining Aura Light’s energy-saving lamps with extra long lifetime, with a connector, the solution can be used in existing mercury luminaries. In this way both energy costs and the CO2 emissions are reduced. This Long Life solution has a guaranteed lifetime of seven years where high pressure mercury lamps need to be replaced more often due to the shorter lifetime and loss of light. Hence, the maintenance costs for replacements are also reduced dramatically as the customers only need to do one replacement instead of three during the same period of time.

– This is a very simple way to take the old, environmentally unfriendly mercury lamps off the streets. You can reduce the energy usage dramatically and get a lamp that lasts three times longer than the old lamp, which gives it a short payback, says Martin Malmros, CEO and Group Director at Aura Light International AB.  

Mercury lamps will also be banned after 2015 in accordance to the European Union’s Eco design directive. With this solution existing luminaries for mercury lamps can be used even after the ban, but with energy saving compact fluorescent lamps. There is no need for big investments as the existing equipment can be used and the payback time for this solution is around two years.

The energy saving compact fluorescent lamp from Aura Light is developed to be used outdoor and give a high amount of light also in low temperatures.
